Postgraduate Diploma in Law

The Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGDL) by online learning is a 1-year program that will give non-law graduates a route and an opportunity to pursue a career in law and gain the concept and function of law. As everyone needs to know the law, not just lawyers, it provides students with a foundation knowledge of law and legal issues. Students will study and explain legal theories and extract legal concepts from them. Students will gain skills in analyzing and applying the law to find solutions. Students will learn about, among other things, the role of law in the life of the individual and society, the rights protected by the Constitution, the legal powers of state bodies, the laws governing contracts and business relationships and the laws that protect employees.

Learning outcomes

After completing this program student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of Rights and freedoms and their limits and protection of the constitution.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the three levels of government and their functions and the legal rules governing the activity of government agencies.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the relations between States and international organizations
  • Analyze crimes specified in the Somali Penal Code compared to Islamic jurisprudence.
  • Analyze and apply concepts, principles and policies and make critical judgements
  • Gain knowledge of the legal rules governing domestic and international trade
  • Gain knowledge of the provisions of contracts and financial and non-financial transactions.
  • Analyze and apply legal reasoning in various business context issues
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the legal rules regulating labor relations in the public and private sectors.
  • Effectively communicate ideas and arguments in writing and orally to file civil, penal, administrative and constitutional lawsuits
