MU signs two MOUs with Capital and Plasma universities.

Sunday, February 27, 2022: MU has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Plasma and Capital universities.

The MOU was signed at a brief ceremony held at MU administration Compound in the presence of MU president Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Mursal, rectors of Plasma and Capital universities and several officials from the three institutions.

The aim of such agreements is to expand partnership with higher education institutions and develop academic and cultural exchange through mutual assistance.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Mursal said that he is pleased to sign an agreement with local universities as this new partnership will generate opportunities to work together and benefit from one and another. “Mogadishu University considers itself as the mother of Somali universities as it is the first university established in Somalia after the civil war consequently, we should collaborate with other higher education providers to deliver experience. We hope that this MOU will be a good start for new cooperation and exchange of ideas and research in many fields of study pressing Somali contemporary issues and beyond”.

This new partnership will allow the involved universities to further academic links, research and training through series activities and programs.

Mogadishu University co-organizes a high-level conference on digital and innovative education in Kenya

Mogadishu University co-organized a high-level conference focused on digital and innovative education for migrant and internally displaced persons (IDPs) communities. Held in Mombasa, Kenya, this conference was part of the Inclusive and Innovative Digital Education for Migrant Communities in Kenya and Somalia (IIDEMIC) Project. This initiative is collaboratively implemented by six universities from Somalia, Kenya, Turkey, and Poland, and is co-funded by ERASMUS+ CBHE.The IIDEMIC Project aims to equip teachers in migrant communities with essential 21st -century soft skills to enhance their entrepreneurial competencies. In addition to the participating universities, the conference gathered prominent academics, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss, strategize, and evaluate advancements in educational initiatives for migrant communities. Representatives from the Ministry of Education and Research in Kenya, the Ministry of Interior, and various organizations shared valuable insights on policies, educational services, and sustainability in refugee education.

Faculty of Political Science and Public administration, Department of International Relations has co-hosted today an online lecture on: “Peace and Security in the Horn of Africa: State of Play and the Way Forward, Focusing on Somalia”

The program started with Opening Remarks by Ahmed Abdel-Latif, the Director-General of the Cairo International Centre for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), and by Fumio IWAI, Ambassador of Japan in EgyptThe guest speaker was Prof. Hideaki Shinoda, a distinguished professor at the Graduate School of Global Studies, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. This was followed by comments and questions.This event, which facilitated by the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) and the Japanese Embassy in Egypt, attended more than 50 participants.

According to latest rankings released by the association of Arab Universities on Thursday Mogadishu University was placed 134th among 180 Arab universities that were ranked. This ranking of 2024 edition of Arab raking for universities has assessed key performance indicators include: Teaching and learning index, scientific research index, Creativity and innovation index and international outlook. Mogadishu University’s ranking among the Arab world and other rankings highlight the immense potential of Somali academic institutions as it serves a reminder, despite decades of conflict and instability in the country that the learning institutions in Somalia can compete on an international scale. As one of Somalia’s premier institutions, Mogadishu University has played a vital role in the country’s development, producing leaders, educators, and innovators who are shaping the nation’s future.
