On the morning of November 6, 2025, hundreds of graduands in gowns and mortarboards gathered on the main campus to celebrate the graduation of the university’s 25th cohort. The event not only marked academic achievement but also honored the resilience of learners navigating the challenges of Somalia’s environment.

This year’s graduands included the first batch of agriculture students and other departments – expanding MU’s alumni network professionals who continue to shape Somalia’s future across the public, private, and civil society sectors.

Record‑breaking female graduates

This year’s graduates marked a historic milestone with women accounting for more than half of this year’s graduates — a first in the university’s history. One thousand thirty eight students awarded degrees. Of these, about % 50.39 were women and around %49.61 men. This marks the highest female share the university has ever recorded.

Presiding over the ceremony, MU president Dr.Ibrahim Mohamed Mursal, urged the graduates to merge the social with the entrepreneurial, to be innovative, and to use their qualifications to serve the country amid continuing economic and security challenges. He specifically noted the significance of the strong female turnout: “This shows the transformative power of education and the changing role of women in Somalia.” He added.

In his address, he told graduates to remain connected to the university and to serve their communities as ambassadors of learning and integrity.
