In October 2023, Mogadishu University’s Faculty of Sharia and Law students secured the best speaker position in preliminary rounds in the fiercely competitive All African Moot Court Competition. This prestigious event was held in Arusha, Tanzania, and drew participation from law students across African nations.
In a statement by ICRC posted in X platform ex Twitter had congratulated to Mogadishu University team for the award they received, especially Mohamed Farah who won the best speaker in preliminary rounds.
“Mohamed Farah’s arguments were sound and convincing” the statement added.
The Competition, which was organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), was held from 18th-25th October and involved nine Universities, including the Mogadishu University.
This annual competition, which started in 1992, plays a crucial role in legal education in Africa and trains future lawyers to argue cases involving human rights violations, as if they were presenting before the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
The All African Moot Court Competition has a lasting impact beyond the event itself as it plays a significant role in shaping human rights teaching and research across Africa.
