Somalia: Mogadishu University Ranked Best University in Somalia for several consecutive years

Mogadishu University has maintained its lead position in Somalia’ higher education institutions as it was ranked Number 1 in Somalia in the just released UniRank 2023 report. This is a significant continuation from last years’ ranking, in which Mogadishu University topped Somali universities.

UniRank aims to provide a non-academic league table of the top Somali universities based on valid, unbiased, and non-influenceable web metrics provided by independent web intelligence sources rather than data submitted by the universities themselves.

This edition reflects the commitment of MU administration and academic members to deliver university vision to be number in quality education and research.
MU offers 11 faculties with 41 programs of at least 4 year bachelor’s degrees or postgraduate master’s or doctoral degrees, and 7 centers and institutes for producing research and knowledge production.

Strengthening International Collaboration: Visit from Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University

As part of the Erasmus+ K117 Teaching Mobility Program, Mogadishu University had the honor of hosting Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gümüş and Ms. Cansu Dilek from Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, Faculty of Science, Mathematics, and Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering respectively. The visit aimed to foster academic collaboration, share research expertise, and explore future partnership opportunities. During their six-day stay, the guests engaged in academic presentations, interactive sessions with students, and practical workshops showcasing advanced civil engineering practices. They also held strategic meetings with university staff to discuss potential areas for joint research and academic exchange. This successful visit reflects Mogadishu University’s strong commitment to internationalization and building sustainable academic networks. We look forward to deepening our collaboration with Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University through continued exchange in education, research, and innovation.

Mogadishu University President Attends 57th Arab Universities Conference and QS Higher Education Summit in Kuwait.

Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Mursal, President of Mogadishu University, is participating in the 57th General Conference of the Association of Arab Universities (AARU), held at the International University of Kuwait This year’s conference, taking place from April 23 to 24, focuses on the theme “Arab Higher Education in Light of Digital Transformation and Enhancing Regional Integration.” During his stay in Kuwait, Dr. Ibrahim also attended QS Higher Education Summit from 20-22 April 2025.These events gathered over 250 university presidents and education ministers from across the Arab world to discuss pressing issues in higher education, including digital transformation, regional cooperation, and academic innovation. The conference aims to strengthen collaboration among Arab academic institutions and align educational strategies with technological advancements and labor market needs.MU president’s participation underscores Mogadishu University’s commitment to engaging with regional academic networks and contributing to the development of higher education in the Arab world. His involvement also highlights the university’s efforts to foster international partnerships and enhance its academic programs through collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Kick-off Meeting for the PURSUE Project

Mogadishu University is honored to be part of the Promoting Sustainable, Affordable Housing Construction Technologies Using Environmentally Sound Locally Available Resources (PURSUE) Project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ CBHE program. The project’s Kick-off Meeting took place from February 17–21, 2025, at the Dar Es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) in Tanzania, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss the project’s objectives, implementation strategies, management plans, and long-term impact. PURSUE is a collaborative effort of eight partner universities from Somalia, Tanzania, Mozambique, Turkey, and Portugal. The project aims to develop innovative, sustainable, and cost-effective housing technologies by leveraging environmentally friendly, locally available materials. By enhancing technical skills, strengthening university infrastructure, and fosteringresearch in Civil Engineering, PURSUE seeks to address critical challenges in affordable housing while promoting sustainable development. Mogadishu University is committed to actively contributing to this transformative initiative, engaging in knowledge exchange, research collaborations, and capacity building to equip staff and students with essential skills and expertise for the future.
