Course Description

This course is designed to study of an introduction to the importance of clinical laboratory service, to provide knowledge of the design and management of clinical laboratory services through primary, secondary and tertiary health care levels. Also including laboratory math, records, professional code of conduct and ethics, also includes the laboratory chemicals, sterilization and disinfection, laboratory accidents and hazards, quality assurance, health and safety in laboratories, firefighting, using safety signs and symbols

Learning Objective

  • At the end of this course the student is expected to:
  • 1. Introduce the importance of medical laboratory service
  • 2. Define and classify the medical laboratories according to their biosafety
  • 3. Explain methods and procedures for sterilization and disinfection of medical laboratory wares and instruments.
  • 4. Discuss the factors contributing to medical laboratory accidents and hazards
  • 5. Discuss the quality assurance in medical laboratories
  • 6. Discuss health and safety in medical laboratories
  • 7. Know how to prepare and dilute solution used in medical laboratory and calculate their concentrations
