The course is designed to develop the student’s general knowledge in the basic science of organic chemistry so that they can learn effectively all relevant health courses. It is also covers the concept of food/basal metabolism that place in human body.
Course Description Biochemistry
This course provides biochemistry of cells and body cavities, the biochemical composition of cells, the chemical composition of life, Carbohydras and its metabolism, lipids its metabolism, amino acid & proteins its metabolism, nucleic acids, enzyme, vitamins, hormones
- This course is designed to develop the student’s general knowledge in the basic science of organic chemistry so that they can learn effectively all relevant health courses. It also covers the concept of food/ basal metabolism that place in human body.
- 1. Describe the main classes of biomolecules and describes their structure as related to their functions.
- 2. Classify carbohydrate, proteins and lipids
- 3. Also describe processes leading to the synthesis and degradation of these molecules
- 4. Distinguish between exergonic and endergonic reactions, and give examples of how they may be coupled.
- 5. Explain how the chemical structure of ATP allows it to transfer a phosphate group, and discuss the central role of ATP in the overall energy metabolism of the cell.
- 6. Describe the processes of aerobic and anaerobic respiration, emphasizing energy yielded by these processes with regard to that of fermentation as anaerobic respiration
