Course Description

This course introduces students to the systematic study of quality poetry. The purpose of this subject is to introduce students to the art of poetry. This course of poetry seeks to familiarize students with the critical terms required for the analysis of poetry through studies of technical terminologies connected with poetry and its criticism and analytical studies of a number of selected poems. Focus is put on various topics like themes, poetic devices, form, style, ideas and other elements of poetry. Poetry is a literary genre well-suited to expose students to the rich and imaginative use of language. Reading and discussing masterpieces of selected poems will help engage and expand the appreciation of the language of poetry.
